Introduction to Architectural Thinking
Foundational studio introducing spatial thinking, drawing, and design research as interconnected practices.

Course Overview
ARCH101 introduces first-year students to architecture as a mode of thinking rather than a fixed set of technical skills. The studio treats drawing, model-making, and spatial observation as research instruments that help students articulate how they see and interpret the built environment.
Studio Structure
Each module connects a spatial concept to a documented design exercise. Students learn to move between concrete observation and abstract proposition — the same rhythm that defines research-driven studio culture across the CD HUB ecosystem.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop spatial literacy through drawing and model exercises
- Document design decisions as research notes, not only as final products
- Connect studio work to broader questions of architectural education and public knowledge
